Eastpak Artist Studio - Do not miss!

Tomorrow, hosted by the London Store, Naples proudly houses one of the stops of the Eastpak Artist Studio's third edition, an event where Neapolitan and Italian artists can see exhibited their creativity through a limited edition of the world's most popular backpack, the Padded Pak'r.

A unique event full of international spirit, which follows the Rome event being held today and precedes the final step to Anversa,  promising to be nearly a must: and in addition to the happy hour which is held from 17.30 to 20.30, you can also take home one of the limited edition backpacks.

In fact, the auction raises funds to support the non-profit organization Designers Against AIDS, aimed at spreading awareness of the risks of 'HIV and AIDS among young people.

I've already spotted a few backpack, but you can see all of them on the website with interesting video about designers and their creation process.

The Color Is Coming

Via espadrillas, bentornate polacchine!

Autumn has arrived and inevitably 'winter is coming', wardrobes are emptied to make room for the fateful 'change of season' and with them the shoe racks.
Bye espadrilles, welcome back ankle boots! See you next year sandals, make room for the boots!
And with summer, they go away bright colors too to make room for winter colors from head to foot ... well maybe not at the foot yet.

In fact, if you do not want to forgo a hint of color even in winter (and add quite a bit of personality) without throwing away your extremely comfortable shoes for a couple of fluorescent ones, just follow in the footsteps of Ben Hertz that was actually in Rome when he changed his broken strings with a couple red waxed thus beginning the history of the brand he created, Benjos.

Now Benjos no longer has just red waxed laces, but myriad of colors from which you can choose: you can match the color of the shoe, the scarf or the tie to liven up a boring conference.

This 'technique' to spice up old and loved shoes is a trend that has been seen already this summer at the Pitti, but personally I prefer to add color in winter, when the closet becomes less brilliant.

But Benjos not only sells strings, because there are shoes that do not need them ... such as loafers : so here come into the picture, as tradition dictates, the pennies.

Yes, even the coin stuck in the shoe colors up, giving a twist of color and modernity to the old loafers, perhaps succeeding at changing idea to some guy also, who refuses to buy them because 'they're granpa shoes'.

Here, too, there are many colors to choose from, enough so to use a different one for every day of the week ... or to keep them in your wallet to change them when you're feeling a little blue.

If you do not want to buy them on the website, laces and pennies should be available in the Brooks & Brothers closest to your home, or check on the site for other retailers.

What do you think? You'll buy a pair to give a new life to your old boots or attempt to stay in the game palming off pennies at the bank of Monopoly?

Phoneblocks: the customizable smartphone of the future

I don't usually do many articles about mobile phones even though I love smartphones, but this project got me immediately excited and I could not wait to cover it as soon as I put my hands on the keyboard.

Trying to reduce electronic waste, which is composed mainly from our phones, the product designer Dave Hakkens has created one of the most amazing concepts of our times.
Through building it in blocks attached to a base by small connecting pins, this new phone is designed to be upgraded and customized only in some of its parts, leaving intact the rest of the structure that composes it, reducing costs and waste unquestionably: even in case of one element breaking, it will be easy to replace the block directly by ourselves.

Putting aside these advantages, it is also possible to customize (as if it were a fantastic lego construction) their smartphone according our needs: in fact, buying only the blocks we are interested in, all kinds of people will have the perfect mobile for them.
Thus, the photographs enthusiast will choose a bigger camera, a grandmother a speaker covering nearly half of the device, and the traveler who has all the files in the Cloud a battery that can last throughout the week.

I challenge you to find another smartphone tailor-made for you as much as a bespoke shirt!

It's time

I wanted to dedicate this post to three watch models that I was pleasantly surprised by: I do not usually like the classic men's watches and I myself do not wear watches on the wrist, but I found three products that I was really amazed by their originality and good taste.

The first, very vintage looking and simple, is the watch designed by Indian Prasanna Sankhe for HYPHEN: the leather strap and case with a classic design make it a watch suitable for all ages, that is on the arm of a the young man of twenty or of your favorite uncle of fifty.
The thing that sets him apart from all the other watches on the market, however, is the humorous press numbers on the dial: a 'ish' (in English, adding this suffix to the word gives it a meaning of 'almost' or 'more or less ': so nine-ish means ' almost nine o'clock or so ') at the end of 3, 9, 6 and 12 in fact joked that in the era of digital watches 'Who is left who can read analog clocks?'.

This watch instead I found in the temporary shop Full Spot while waiting for the connecting train to the Roma Termini station to return home, and I fell in love immediately: I have always had a huge passion for pocket watches and finally someone thought of revisit in a much more modern way.
In fact, playing with the colors of hypoallergenic and water-resistant silicone, the company has created a simple and modern design, suitable for young and fashion-conscious audiences.
It had enchanted me at first glance, but being a product made & DESIGNED in Italy and from a company that uses eco-friendly materials, can only enhance the quality and appeal of the product (which costs only € 29, making this watch a perfect christmas gift * wink wink *)

Here I put some colors that I like from the collection, especially the third and second.

The last watch is definitely my favorite of the three (although it is a tough fight), or at least what would be most often on my wrist.

Designed by computer graphics pioneer Daniel Will-Harris, the clock for sale at the MoMA was created for a project for the designing watches in which they are invited designers and architects around the world: the mechanical clock that reads time as a digital has the philosophy, in fact, to think only of the present. So, obscuring all numbers that do not need to read the time and the slim design, simple and elegant make it suitable for any occasion, especially if you only need a quick peek to know the exact time.

Obviously of the colors available I prefer the black, red and blue monochrome.
